A Quick Road Trip from Austin
I shared images from a work trip to Austin in my last post. Today, I want to share some photos taken on a quick escape from the city, in the form of a road trip into the hill country.
I had read good things about the countryside near Austin and therefore decided to rent a car for a quick road trip into the hill country. The cities of Fredericksburg and Llano and their surroundings came recommended and seemed within reasonable driving distance for one day of exploring. Apart from visiting the two cities, I decided to drive the Wilow City Loop, a scenic circular route through hilly farmland full of streams, cattle, and wildflowers.
Rural Images
Fredericksburg
Both Llano and Fredericksburg seem to be very nice places but for some reason (probably excessive hunger), I was more interested in the food offering than photography, so all images here are from Fredericksburg.
In contrast to Llano, which has a more Latin feel, Fredericksburg is a community with German roots. I learned that many people still speak Texas German, a dialect based on the type of German the immigrant founders spoke in the 19th century. Interestingly, my own German surname seemed well presented on business signs. A shop owner I spoke to promptly called for his daughter on hearing of my German origins so that she could ask me questions to support her upcoming German Club trip to Munich.
Bonus Shot from San Antonio
While not part of this particular hill country road trip, I also managed a very short visit to San Antonio, which I enjoyed much less due to excessive traffic and lack of time (hopefully, I can come back for a proper visit). However, I want to share one image of three cool rangers tasked with protecting the Alamo, who were happy to pose for a photo.
